Real-time Tracker of Global Genomic Surveillance
2021 - Now
I developed full-stack real-time interactive maps to track the proportion of reported COVID-19 cases that were collected and sequenced by each country and by each US state. The success of these dashboards led me to develop similar ones for mpox and RSV. These dashboards are regularly used by WHO and other agencies to inform public health policy.
Southeast Asian Arts Censorship Database
2022 - 2023
https://artsequator.com/censorshipI was the database architect and technical consultant for this project by ArtsEquator (in partnership with Five Arts Center. I designed a system to gather reports of censorship from researchers, and built an interactive dashboard to filter and display these records.

COVID19 Rt Tracker for Singapore
https://www.josesho.com/singapore-covid19-dashboard/Inspired by ex-Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom’s work on tracking the real-time reproductive number (Rt) for covid19 in US cities, I used his approach to generate the Rt estimates for Singapore through February 2022. To my knowledge, no dashboard presented Rt estimates for Singapore, representing a unique contribution to public science communication.

Exploring SingPoWriMo
Since 2017, I have worked with Sing Lit Station to archive and analyse the poetry posted to the SingPoWriMo Facebook group. In the group, 7,600 participants are challenged to write a poem a day for each day in April. In the three weeks leading up to April 2019, I analysed over 16,500 poems and created a series of infographics to unearth trends and illustrated interesting trivia. These were published on Facebook (Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3).

Estimation Stats webapp
I led the development and design of estimationstats.com for the Claridge-Chang lab. The webapp makes estimation statistics accessible to all and serves almost 500 users every month since its launch in mid-2018.I am also the lead developer for the DABEST software suite (consisting of Python, R, and Matlab software packages) that are widely used by researchers for data analysis and visualisation of their biomedical experiments.
